Diamond Creek Road to the Bottom of the Grand Canyon

The ride down Diamond Creek Road from the town of Peach Springs in Northwestern Arizona is one of the neater rides in Arizona. The road actually goes to the Colorado River in the bottom of the Grand Canyon and today serves as a take-out point for many of the raft trips through the Canyon. I believe the first car traveled down this road in 1911 or 1913! The beach is also the starting point for the Hualapai raft trips to Pierce Ferry on Lake Mead. The road is on the Hualapai Reservation and a permit is required. 4WD vehicles are also required, although in the three times that I have been there, we only had to use it once when we hit a soft spot in the lower part of the road where Diamond Creek flows through the roadway.
