Aravaipa Mining Camp--Arizona

The old minng camp of Aravaipa is located in east central Arizona. It is southwest of Safford Arizona near the tiny hamlet of Klondyke. The area apparently reached its heyday in the 1890's but some of the equipment that is laying around suggests that mining activity continued far beyond those dates. There are are foundations, shafts, headframes, hoisting machines and other pieces of equipment scattered about the old town site. The time that we were there, the weather turned cold and rainy. Instead of setting up camp on our own, we camped in the main building. That was before the days of hantavirus!
